The Confucius Temple Cultural Park is centered around the historic Confucius Temple and connects to several key ancient landmarks through a series of old streets. Emphasizing the sense of space, it is the pioneer in Tainan City that originates from the concept of a cultural park. The main axis of the Confucius Temple Cultural Park is based on Nanmen Road, extending to the north-south streets. From the Confucius Temple known as "Taiwan's First Academy," to Fuzhong Street where Pan Palace is located, to Dehua Hall on Fufuqian Road, to Da Nanmen City Park, Nanmen City Ruins, Wufei Temple, Koxinga Shrine, and even Fahua Temple outside the old city's Small South Gate—each area has its distinct historical features and nature, ranging from the academy, city walls, tombs, dining halls, temples, to schools left behind from the Japanese colonial period.
Features
The basic impression of the Confucius Temple Cultural Park is of green shades, red tiles, and red walls. The relaxed atmosphere of the elderly playing chess, couples strolling, and children playing makes many fall in love with this "carefree" cultural park at first sight.
After exploring the Confucius Temple Cultural Park, you can take a break at a café on the opposite old street—Fuzhong Street (Confucius Temple Charm District), or enjoy local food at places like Fujii Rouyuan, Lily Fruit Room, and Shuntian Ice Pops. In addition to the well-known Confucius Temple, Koxinga Shrine dedicated to Koxinga is also worth visiting to recall Koxinga's fascinating historical stories. Despite being reconstructed in 1963 into a Chinese northern palace-style building, it remains a favorite among Japanese tourists due to its connection with Koxinga.
Furthermore, Da Nanmen has a forest of steles at its large southern gate. It has become quite spectacular since its walls were removed to make it a public green space, turning Nanmen Park into the best leisure spot for city residents. Near the Wufei Temple, the area, despite being a "tomb" in nature, has been successfully greened and turned into a walking and exercise area for nearby residents. There are also many unique cafés clustered around this area.
